The Betsy Piper Memorial Community Service Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Betsy Piper, a woman remembered for her kindness, dedication to others, love of learning, and deep devotion to her family and community.

Throughout her life, Betsy quietly made a difference in the lives of those around her. Whether through her many years serving patients at Jefferson Hospital, caring for the people she loved, or simply offering her time, compassion, and unwavering support to someone who needed it, Betsy lived a life centered around helping others.

​

Betsy believed in living life fully, finding joy in the simple moments, and building meaningful connections with those around her. She loved music, books, puzzles, swimming, and spending time with her family, but above all else, she valued people. Her strength, generosity, compassion, and spirited nature left a lasting impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

​

It is in that spirit that this scholarship recognizes a student who embodies the qualities that made Betsy so special: exceptional community service, compassion for others, and a genuine commitment to making a positive difference. The recipient demonstrates leadership through kindness, serves others without seeking recognition, and continually works to strengthen both their school and community.

This year’s recipient is the definition of a “quiet doer.” She is someone who sees a need and simply tends to it. She does not ask for accolades or commendations for the work she does; instead, she steps forward because she knows something needs to be done. She is the net beneath the tightrope — always ready and willing to catch anyone who may need her.

​

In the classroom, she is consistently on task and is always willing to volunteer for additional responsibilities. Throughout her time at Elizabeth Forward, she has served as a class officer, volunteered on behalf of our service organizations, and shared her talents as a member of the musical and choral programs.

​

For the past four years, the Class of 2026 has also relied on her familiar voice to keep them informed about the goings-on throughout the building through the morning announcements. It is just one more example of the quiet but important role she has played within the Elizabeth Forward community.

​

She does not lead by seeking attention or recognition. She simply leads by example. Through her dependability, kindness, service, and willingness to help wherever she is needed, she has established herself as one of the most reliable students to have ever graced Elizabeth Forward.

It is with great pride that the $500 Betsy Piper Memorial Community Service Scholarship is awarded to Miss Taelor Kennedy.
